Antwerp, Belgium – Europe Cargo BV has once again demonstrated its expertise in handling complex project cargo, successfully overseeing the transshipment of massive steel components arriving from China.
The operation, led by the Europe Cargo team, involved a multi-modal journey that required meticulous planning and execution under the changing conditions of the autumn season.
The Cargo: Engineering at Scale
The shipment consisted of eight massive steel pillars, critical for industrial infrastructure. The sheer scale of the units required specialized handling equipment and expert oversight:
- • Length: 29.64 meters per pillar
- • Diameter: 1 meter
- • Origin: Shanghai, China
- • Destination: Moerdijk, Netherlands

A Seamless Multi-Modal Transition
The journey began with the arrival of the deep-sea vessel mv Fu Xiang Lin at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. Upon arrival, the Europe Cargo team managed the delicate transshipment process, moving the pillars from the ocean-going vessel to the inland water system.
The pillars were loaded onto the inland vessel “Mariska” for the final leg of the journey. A key highlight of this operation was the utilization of the brand-new VdVlist Breakbulk Terminal, a state-of-the-art facility designed to handle oversized and heavy-lift cargo with high efficiency.

"We are proud to support our clients with reliable, precise, and seamless logistics, every step of the way," says Bert Geeraerts. "Even under exceptional autumn conditions, our team ensured the project remained on schedule and the cargo was handled with the highest level of care."
Strengthening Global Supply Chains
This successful operation underscores Europe Cargo’s ability to bridge the gap between major global manufacturing hubs like Shanghai and European industrial destinations. By leveraging the strategic infrastructure of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges and specialized terminals, the company continues to set a high standard for the forwarding and breakbulk industry.
